ABOUT

Beate Mordal - a lyric coloratura soprano from a little Norwegian town called Molde. She has a diverse repertoire, coming from her teenage years as a jazz singer, and has already become known as as an excellent musical/cabaret singer in addition to her opera career.

She started her career in 2015 as Papagena at The Royal Danish Opera and the following summer she worked for the festival of Aix-en-Provence with contemporary repertoire at the academy and in SVADBA by Ana Sokolovic. Beate joined the tour of the opera in the 16/17 season and she got the prize of being a Laureate of the Festival d’Aix-En-Provence. She returned to the prestigious festival in 2018 to sing Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos, under the baton of Marc Albrecht and director Katie Mitchell. Beate has sung at this festival the last three years in a row in two critically acclaimed world premiere’s: Innocence by Kaija Saariaho / Sofi Oksaanen (2021) conducted by Susanna Mälkki, and most recent; Picture A Day Like This (2023) by George Benjamin & Martin Crimp conducted by Sir George Benjamin himself.

She debuted as Eileen in “A wonderful Town” at The Royal Danish Opera, November 2018, and had her debut at The Norwegian Opera and ballet with the same role in 2022.

Beate has also worked a lot with Bergen National Opera. She has had her debut and a jump in as Vitellia instead of Servilia. The critically acclaimed livestream in March 2021 (despite corona) was under the baton of Ed Gardner. In 2022 she returned as Valencienne in the Merry Widow 2.0 directed by Kasper Holten.

In 2016, Beate made her debut as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro at The Longborough Festival Opera where she returned for Pamina in Die Zauberflöte 2017, under the baton of Anthony Neagus and director Thomas Guthrie.
